PUPcakes – Peanut Butter Style

Who said that cupcakes were only for humans?  Well, in this blog post I will be sharing with you my peanut butter and banana pupcakes with a peanut butter frosting recipe.

As you may know, Labrador’s are renowned for their love of food and my dog, Sam is no exception to this rule. His favourite food is peanut butter and nine times out of ten  what I bake for him contains peanut butter.

In most cases, you can change any recipe and add your dogs favourite food or ingredient so if your dog isn’t a big fan of peanut butter then you could always remove the peanut butter and replace it with your dogs preferred ingredient to suit his or hers taste.

**The recipe has a yield of 10 pupcakes so the ingredients can be halved to make approximately 5 pupcakes.

  • 1/4 cup smooth peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of baking powder

  • 250g fat-free cottage cheese (or you can use cream cheese)
  • 1/4 cup smooth peanut butter
  • 2 teaspoons milk
  • Dog biscuits for decoration (optional)

  1. Firstly, line a cupcake tin with cupcake liners and set the oven to 160 for a fan oven or 350 degrees F.
  2. Next, in a bowl mash-up your banana using a fork and add the peanut butter, oil, egg and honey to the mashed up banana and mix until combined.
  3. Gradually, add in the flour, baking soda and baking powder to the mixture.
  4. Scoop up the mixture using a spoon into each lined cupcake until half full.
  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes or when a tooth pick inserted in the centre comes out clean (the cupcakes should be golden brown at this point). Allow the pupcakes to cool to room temperature before frosting.
  6. Now, in a bowl beat the cottage cheese, peanut butter and milk until combined.
  7. Next, either pipe on the frosting with a piping bag or spread on the frosting with a spatula.
  8. Lastly, go crazy with your decoration of choice, whether it be milky bones or choco drops and more importantly watch your dog enjoy their pupcake!

He really can’t resist peanut butter.

Thank you for reading my pupcake inspired blog! I hope that it has inspired you to bake for your furry friends, maybe it’s their birthday coming up or you just want to bake them some delicious treats. Whatever the occasion these treats will be a hit and your dog will be left wanting more! Have a lovely day!
